PNW Community Coral Reef Project

Through intricate loops and knots, Christina Harkness and a community of fiber artists craft an underwater universe where beauty and fragility coexist. What began as a decades-long journey in knitting evolved into something more sculptural, more expressive—an exploration of freeform crochet and hyperbolic forms that brings delicate ecosystems to life in vivid fiber.
Inspired by global fiber-reef movements and the haunting elegance of threatened marine habitats, the artist reimagines coral landscapes using warped canvases as her base. These immersive works shift from lush, thriving reefs to bleached-out expanses and eroded shorelines—quiet, tactile meditations on balance, resilience, and loss.
Woven with intention and layered meaning, this exhibit invites reflection—not only on the intricacy of the medium, but on the worlds we’re shaped by and the ones we’re shaping in return.
